Because That's How We Roll.....

If you've missed it, we just don't do holidays well. I don't know what it is, but someone (and usually ALL of us) end up with something on every single holiday. And I am REALLY not exaggerating! Even on St Patrick's Day Lilli managed a double ear infection. So why should Memorial Day be any different? The kick off to summer - Nah - the kick-off to being sick!

The weekend started innocently enough and we had a great Friday and Saturday. Lilli woke up cute and happy on Sunday morning. And then we noticed she had this awful cough! It came out of nowhere - she had slept great Saturday night and we hadn't heard a single peep out of her! You could hear her breathing from the next room over as she ate breakfast, her little chest just sounded so congested. She acted completely normal, and was wild as ever, so we went ahead and got her dressed for church and she was running laps around the house. How cute is this little dress??? $4 at a consignment sale last spring!
She loved the little ladybugs on the bottom and the ladybug button.
So we went ahead and went to church and just skipped Sunday school. She was still a little raspy and we didn't want to risk that she might be contagious, even though she wasn't acting a bit sick. (You know, the courteous thing to do that you wish other parents did but never seem to actually do....) She took a nice afternoon nap, and we'd occasionally hear her cough but she was still in a great mood and wanted to dance with the old radio after she got up. She loves to hear the Grand Old Opry station and dance along to it....
We had already invited our friends Adam and Julia over for a cookout, so of course it rained and Brent was grilling fajitas in the rain. We had a great visit, but Lilli didn't eat a lot of dinner which was kind of curious. Other than that she was herself, running around and tearing up the house, and we put her to bed around 9 or so.Our little party continued on, but around 11 (or maybe 12?) Lilli woke up absolutely hacking and crying just as they were leaving. When I ran in there she started throwing up phlegm (right down my shirt, naturally). Isn't that the universal sign that your party is over? The poor little thing was SO congested, so Brent got a steam shower going and we jumped in there to help clear her lungs. We were up about every 20 minutes until 4 am, and did more steam showers in-between. She was just so tired but having such an awful time breathing. Thankfully after 4 she slept straight until around 9:30 but you could tell she felt so droopy, and she'd started running a 101-102 fever.
She hardly ate anything on Monday. Not the fun Memorial Day we had planned....
After breakfast everyone piled on Momma to watch some cartoons and just take it easy.....
She did take a nice long nap, and woke up feeling slightly better. She wasn't coughing quite as much Monday, but was still so congested and also had a little bit of a runny nose. On Saturday we had gotten her new splash pool set up. How fun does THIS look:
4 paws up from Pippin!
But Lilli had felt otherwise about it on Saturday.
In her defense it was a little chilly, so Monday afternoon after her nap I pulled it over to the sun and we tried again. She still didn't feel well but I could tell she was so bored in the house. This time I tried to just get her NEAR it and that worked better. We took out our bowls and cups, and she enjoyed just splashing in it from the outside.
Even the occasional smile!
But when she was done - she was DONE! (How cute is that swimsuit??? $8 at Marshalls! And I love the little sunsuits like this where you don't spend 500 years trying to cover her in sunscreen, this helps so much!)
Her fever spiked back up around dinner, and she slept awful all night. It was back up to 102 at midnight, and she was up about every 20 minutes all night long. She sounded a lot better, but we wanted her to see the doctor so I called them as soon as they opened and Brent took her this morning.
They tested her for strep (negative), and her ears checked out fine. The doc said her tonsils were inflamed, and chest congested, but they felt it was just a upper respiratory infection. I know my allergies have been bothering me, so I guess she was also affected from all the time we spent playing outside on Saturday. He said it should clear up on its own in 3-5 more days. Hopefully the sleeping situation will be better sooner rather than later! She fell asleep in her dinner again tonight, so we put her to sleep at 6:30 and are just hoping she'll sleep all night.

So, from here on out all holidays are canceled. I can already feel a good stomach virus coming on for July 4th.
