Friday night Brent participated in an art auction with his local photography club to benefit the area flood victims. Lilli wanted to help, but I think his camera is a little big for her..... The auction was held at a former gallery about 3 blocks from our house, where Brent has been in many a show. It's currently open for lease, so it was a great spot to have it (especially since we could just walk to it!) My least favorite thing about this gallery is that it is not fully air conditioned, which of course made it hotter than blazes. We got there pretty early (maybe 6:30), but it was still pretty crowded. Most auctions didn't start ending until after 8:45, so really there wasn't a huge point in being there early if you were serious about something.
Lilli LOVED this print. Since it was huge and featured on an easel, I'm guessing it's by one of the famous artists asked to participate. However, it was just **not** our taste. Starting bid was $200. Every time she saw it she would "Whooaaa!" and point at it.
Besides the enormous cheetah print, her other favorite was the brownies from the dessert table. I'm sure she could be convinced to attend almost anything if brownies are involved.
We loved this Miles Davis print by a famous New York photographer. Several famous photographers from around the country contributed pieces. This print went for $950.
We stayed until around 8, the hot building was making Lilli's cough worse, so Brent walked us home and then headed back to help out. His print ended up going for $150, and several local companies were matching so it ended up raising $450 for charity!
It was a fun night and we had a great time visiting with several of our artist friends. I think the next art show on tap is the Tomato Art Festival here in East Nashville.
