This year's Labor Day weekend didn't exactly turn out for us to be the typical laid-back, all American end of summer long weekend one hopes for. On Friday afternoon Brent's grandfather passed away after some long and painful health battles. Although there's no doubt in our mind he is in a much better place now, it's still very sad.
Sunday morning after early service we headed down to his Granny's farm. Grandparent paparazzi was out in full force.Being Labor Day weekend, Pippin was along for the ride. Ever tried to book a kennel on a long weekend on short notice? Haaaaa! Good luck with that one. So before the visitation we had to drop him off at Brent's parents house to hang in his crate while we were at the funeral home. Lilli immediately made herself at home and pretty much thought we were at Toys R Us.
Sometimes she was attracted to some weird things....
Her cousin Madison played Silly Bands with her at the funeral home.
She even got her Aunt Wilma to feed her some fruit. She spent most of the weekend getting anyone besides us to feed her, even though she is more than capable with cutlery.
She ran and ran and was pretty much worn out, so I had Brent take us back to his parents house so I could get her to bed. She slept pretty good, for the most part. She has some teeth bothering her right now, so she whined a few times and only really woke up once. Before the actual funeral we walked some laps outside to try and keep the wiggles at bay.
There were two dogs who always follow their owners to church there and she just LOVED playing with them. My parents came up to the funeral and she was able to sit with them and play Silly Bands during the actual service, so that worked out well. I only let her have them when I really need her to be relatively still, so they're still a "treat".
His burial spot is in the top of a hill with the best view in the cemetery. The service was really beautiful and it's clear how well he was thought of in the community. He and Brent's Granny had been married for 68 years. Brent and I will only be 89 when we hit that many years together, I think that's totally do-able.
Running around after-wards in her little dress. I only paid $10 for it at a consignment sale last spring and I have totally gotten my money's worth plus more out of it.
Even though she won't remember her Great Grandaddy we have lots of pictures to show her and know he will be watching over her from above!
